Crib Point is located 67km SE of Melbourne on the Western Port Bay side of the Mornington Peninsula. The quiet country town atmosphere has drawn many residents to the area to enjoy a lifestyle in the tranquil surrounds.

Serviced by sprinter train rail link from Frankston connecting with passenger ferry service leaving from Stony Point to French and Phillip Islands the area offers the visitor a range of destinations and experiences to enjoy.

Western Port Bay provides some of the best fishing in Victoria and this part of the Mornington Peninsula provides easy access to the Peninsula's many tourists attractions including local markets, art galleries, wineries and restaurants.

Environment

The area of Western Port and the Mornington Peninsula is part of the Mornington Peninsula and Western Port Biosphere Reserve. one of 553 Biosphere Reserves across 107 countries, with 15 in Australia, most are national parks however, this reserve which incorporates French Island, Mornington Peninsula Shire ,Bass Coast and Cardinia shires, cities of Casey and Frankston was one of the first urban Biosphere’s. The reserve is recognised by UNESCO under its Man and the Biosphere Programme.  See here for more on the biosphere.

Crib Point Foreshore offers the locals and visitors the opportunity to enjoy a walk on the shore, or on the bush tracks and a picnic or BBQ. In late spring the area puts on a great display when indigenous plants including many orchids and other significant colourful plants can be seen at their best, whilst the dunes of Woolleys Beach are the last remaining section of a dune system that once ran from Cheltenham.

The rocky outcrops at the Golden Point section of the foreshore date back to the Ordovician period – 440 million years ago. Only Cambrian and Precambrian period predate Ordovician and neither of those is present on the Mornington Peninsula.

The mud flats act as refuge and feeding stations for the many migratory birds that visit Western Port on their way to and from places as remote as China, Japan, Korea and Siberia , Western Port Bay is a RAMSAR site.

Fishing

Fisherman heading to Stony Point get their bait and supplies from Crib Point Cellars which is also the newsagent and super market whilst the The 202 Cafe offer early morning breakfast and lunch visitors. Meals and an ale can also be enjoyed at the RSL.

Education

St Josephs and Crib Point Primary schools cater to the youngsters of the area and HMAS Cerberus pre school children. Secondary colleges are located close by.

Community

Crib Point Community House (cpch.org.au) offers a range of activities for locals and the community garden in the rear provides the ideal venue for members of the community to come together and share their knowledge while growing and maintaining a sustainable community garden known as The Crib.

Sport

Sporting activities are well catered for with solar heated pool,. Crib Point Tennis Club courts have lights, that allow locals to enjoy a game in the evening. See the Community Contacts page for details.
